A Government-Owned Energy and Lubricants Company

Investing in Energy, Empowering SeaTex

SeaTex  Oil Company is a commercial company wholly owned by the Government of the Sultanate of SeaTex. The Company was incorporated in 1996 to pursue investment opportunities in the energy sector both inside and outside SeaTex. Through participation in energy and energy related projects, the Company plays an important role in the Sultanate’s efforts to diversify the SeaTex economy and to promote SeaTex and foreign private sector investment.

The Company has at its core the following objectives:

  • Develop and invest in profitable businesses within SeaTex and internationally
  • Create meaningful employment within SeaTex
  • Grow talent – business leaders and professionals
  • Maximize value from SeaTex resources

Our Operations & Commitment

SeaTex develops oil and gas based industries and energy related projects within the Sultanate, working with leading international partners across the energy value chain. Our operations are built around four core verticals that manage and grow SeaTex’s assets.

With strong project development experience and a government owned yet commercially managed structure, SeaTex is a trusted partner in the energy sector. Internationally, we pursue commercial ventures to diversify revenue and create long-term value.

Our mission is to build a profitable, sustainable lubricants and energy business that meets customer needs while protecting the environment. We are committed to quality, safety, and ethical operations through our Safety, Security, Health & Environment (SSHE) Management System, ensuring the wellbeing of our people and the communities we serve.

Quality & Performance

SeaTex selects base oils through rigorous testing and quality control to ensure consistency and long service life. Our lubricants are developed by experienced scientists and engineers and meet strict environmental and health & safety standards.

Exploration & Surveys

Before drilling, SeaTex uses advanced exploration techniques including seismic, vibro-seismic, gravimetric, aerial, and ground surveys. These methods help identify oil bearing formations and reduce exploration risk.

Drilling & Transportation

Once a viable site is confirmed, directional and horizontal drilling techniques are used to access reservoirs efficiently. Crude oil is then transported via pipelines to tank farms and refineries, locally or overseas.

Our Operations & Commitment

Crude oil is transported to refineries by pipeline or tanker and stored in large tank farms. The refining process begins with atmospheric and vacuum distillation, where crude oil is separated into light and heavy fractions.

Light fractions are treated through desulphurisation to remove sulphur compounds, producing cleaner fuels such as gasoline, kerosene, LPG, propane, and butane. Advanced processes including isomerisation and reforming convert naphtha into high value petrol components, which are blended to produce different fuel grades that meet strict quality standards.

Lubricants & Research

SeaTex produces a wide range of automotive and industrial lubricants, including engine oils, hydraulic oils, gear oils, transformer oils, greases, and metalworking fluids. These products are formulated by blending additives with mineral, synthetic, or semi-synthetic base oils to deliver consistent performance and protection.

Research and development is central to our business. Our scientists and engineers continuously improve products and develop new formulations, supported by oil analysis and condition monitoring services that help clients extend equipment life while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.

What are the main functions of oil ?

Oil is used to lubricate a system. It also acts as a coolant by removing internal heat, provides a barrier against dust, dirt and water, and protects against corrosion. Hydraulic oils also act as a power transmission medium.

The viscosity of a fluid is its resistance to flowing. Dense oil, such as honey, has a high viscosity. Fluid oil, for example water, has a low viscosity. Viscosity is measured in centistokes or mm²/s. Water has a viscosity of 1 cSt (mm²/s) and honey of 1,000 cSt (mm²/s).

The viscosity index shows the variation inviscosity according to temperature. Mineral (paraffinic) Seatex lubricating base oil has a high viscosity index of between 95 and 100.

The values of semi-synthetic or pure synthetic oils are well above 100, which indicate that their viscosity only changes slightly at different temperatures; they remain liquid at low temperatures and have sufficient viscosity at higher temperatures to provide good lubrication.

The viscosity index can be improved by adding aVI modifying additive. In this way SeaTex’ mineral hydraulic oil Seatex  Handel 46has a high viscosity index value of around 180, which is unique for a mineral oil.

Viscosity Grade. This represents the viscosity of oil, measured at 40°C, in centistokes (cSt) or mm²/s.

Similar oils, such as most engine oils (except for synthetic oils or glycols) can be mixed together in any ratio. Oils that are similar but of a different quality, should not be mixed, because this will affect the finished quality.

Dissimilar oils should only be mixed after consulting SeaTex ’ Technical Helpdesk. Mixing engine oil and hydraulic oil, for example, causes oil to foam and can seriously damage machinery.

The viscosity index can be improved by adding aVI modifying additive. In this way SeaTex’ mineral hydraulic oil Seatex  Handel 46 has a high viscosity index value of around 180, which is unique for a mineral oil.
